First Time User, Couple Questions..

So I'm checking out the Hazel app for the first time, giving the trial a go to see if the high price tag is worth the purchase.

I'm running into a couple issues, or perhaps I'm just using the app incorrectly.

Currently I just have the demo rules added to the app. I've enabled the "Newly Added Items," and "No Longer New Items" rules enabled.

When the "Newly Added Items" is run, it's only adding the color label to folders, two folders inside the downloads folder. What part of the rule is telling it add the color label to the folder only and not the new item itself?

With the second enabled rule, "No Longer New Items" it is running, and according to Hazel, it has matched w/ the same 2 folders that were matched with the "Newly Added Items" rule. However the "No Longer New Items" rule is not changing/removing the color label from the folders.

Only 1 of the folders has a new file it in, and its the folder that contains the Hazel.dmg file. The other folder, that both rules matched have not had a new file added to it since November 19th (over a month ago.)

Is the app not applying the rules correctly? Or am I misunderstanding what is suppose to occur.

By default, Hazel only operates on files and folders directly in the folder being monitored. It doesn't go into subfolders unless you set up a rule to tell it to do so. Check the manual as there's a whole chapter dedicated to this topic.

Note also that newly added sometimes indicates the first time Hazel encounters something. That usually happens when the item in question does not have the appropriate metadata indicating when it was added.
