I was trying to do the following:

Wanted to do this.

File1 (text file)
Dog

Value1 = Dog

I wanted hazel to read the file and use that value in the rename option of hazel to use it.

result:
whatever conditions matched

Do the following: to files that match this
Rename with pattern <Name> <Value1>.<ext>

Is that possible?

Any help would be appreciated.

Look up "match patterns" in the help. Using those, you can set up a custom attribute to do what you want.

https://www.noodlesoft.com/manual/hazel ... conditions

looking at that page I don't have the following patterns in the UI

Custom list item
Custom Table

Is that only in hazel 5?

Yes, those are new features in version 5.
