Hazel 5 doesn't remember which sidebar categories were expanded when the app is closed and re-opened.

Here's a screencast demonstrating this:

One other thing: this is my personal opinion, however I think that if you want to delete a category by clicking the round "-" button to the right of its name, a confirmation dialogue should be displayed. I was not at all prepared for the category to just vanish immediately the first time I clicked the button.

It's not clear from your video, did you quit or just switch away from Hazel.

Will consider a dialog for removing groups though it's much less destructive than removing folders plus, unlike removing folders, it's undoable.

Quit. You can see at the bottom where the screencast app recorded my keystroke.

Oh, did not realise it's undoable. As far as I'm concerned, that's sufficient.

If you make any other change to the folder list, does that stick?

Yes - adding/removing/moving folders, creating/deleting categories all work as expected.

I'm not sure about the items being collapsed issue but in talking with other developers, it does seem that the problem with the column being too narrow is a general macOS bug. A bunch of other developers have noticed this happening with their own apps as well as other ones. It seems to be an issue with any app built with Big Sur support (though the app itself does not need to be running on Big Sur).

I am looking into workarounds for that part. Not sure if that will affect the expand/collapse issue though.

Ah, apologies for the confusion.

The video I posted was an old video from the beta period. While the column being too narrow issue is still present (the same as in the video), the expand/collapse issue has already been solved. I don't exactly recall how (I can look for the discussion if you like) but if I remember correctly it was a problem on my end which was resolved by a plist modification. It has not been a problem since.

Ok, that clears things up. There should hopefully be a workaround in the next patch then.

Just updated to 5.0.3 and the issue appears to have been resolved. Very cool.

You can consider this closed & I will post a reply if I notice any other issues regarding the sidebar.
