After Upgrade from Hazel 4.x to 5.x, the App won't work

Version 4 ran without problems so far. After purchasing the upgrade to version 5.x today, the software has stopped working. I saved the app in the programs folder and started it. The old version has been removed. Conn. I added the license. Shortly after starting the app, it will be closed again after a few seconds and will no longer do anything. A manual start remains unsuccessful.

Can you try installing by double-clicking Hazel in the DMG instead of saving/moving it?

I already did that in the first attempt. Unfortunately, the error remains the same. Hazel stopps after a few seconds.

And the 2nd problem is that hazel is not shown in the menu bar.

It seems to be a problem with the system rights. If I do the whole thing with an admin user "502", it doesn't work. I then did the whole thing with root as a test. Here the app was installed correctly in the Application Folder and is now also running for my admin user "502". And now Hazel is also shown in menu bar.

Same here.... works if I manually tell it to run but doesn't run automatically any longer. I think I double clicked on one install and probably drug it over on the other. Same result. Annoying but not the worst thing ever.

Are you getting the Hazel is stopped notice? If not, then your issue is different. Please go through the troubleshooting guide and email support if you can't figure it out from there.

I wanted to ask if this issue has been solved.

I run Hazel 4.4.5 on two of my MacMinis with Catalina (in the same house/LAN) and I recently added an M1 MacMini currently still on BigSur and I might want to use it on my MacBookPro with Monterey too.

I am not sure which upgrade option is for me. Could you please help me, @Mr_Noodle ?

Should I register again and buy a new family licence (which is obviously what I need) or am I eligible for an "upgrade from old version" option? If upgrade from old version, when I then upload my old licence, will my two 4.4.5 hazels still work? I do not want to upgrade those, I want to keep Catalina with hazel 4.4.5. on those two MacMinis, I just want the new Hazel 5 on the newer macos devices.

Please help me which is the correct way to upgrade for me, thanks.

If you purchase an upgrade, it will not affect your previous licenses/installations.
