After 5.0 Install Hazel Pref Pane still opens older version

Hi,

I just installed 5.0 (on Mojave 10.14.6). It looks like my rules migrated and the new Hazel app appears to be working. However, I went to look in System Preferences expecting the Hazel preference pane to be gone, but it wasn't. I opened it and got an "Invalid License" error pop-up. Clicking OK appears to open the earlier version (in demo mode). Any suggestions? Should I just remove the preference pane? Uninstall from the preference pane (it's showing version 4.4.5)? Leave it alone? Besides the OCD aspects of wanting it cleaned up, it looks like there are two HazelHelper processes running (with two different icons), so I'm a bit worried about them both trying to execute rules...

Thanks,

Dave

It's a bit too late now but do not open the old pane. Do not click the Uninstall button there. If you want to remove it, launch System Preferences, right click on Hazel and select the option to remove it there. Reboot after that.

Hopefully your rules/settings weren't corrupted from both fighting over them. Also, can you report back on whether removing the pane required a password or not?

I had the same issue -- two HazelHelper icons, pref pane still in System Preferences. Right clicking on the pref pane remove it from System Preferences and didn't require a password, but the second HazelHelper was still there.

Then I did what I subsequently realised from the forums posts was the exact wrong thing to do, which was to uninstall Hazel (using CleanMyMac). This removed BOTH versions, and all the rules :-(. Fortunately, as I was already syncing the rules to iCloud, it only took a couple of minutes to restore the rules.

Thanks for the quick and definitive response. Removing the Hazel preference pane from System preferences and then rebooting seems to have worked. (It did require admin auth.) At this point, I only see one helper process running, rules appear to be executing, and I haven't gotten any more running in demo mode nag popups.

I didn't see any adverse effects, but once I saw there were two helper processes running I immediately paused processing in the system prefs pane (and there weren't being any docs being processed while both processes were actively processing). My rules appear to be intact as well. The only potential weirdness is that some of my rules appeared to be disabled. I re-enabled them and they seem to work fine.

Thanks again,

Dave
