Hazel5: Rules are deleted if selecting same folder again

All,

as big supporter of Hazel I have purchased and updated directly to V5.

I absolutely like the new GUI as it is much more convinient if you have many rules.
However, the grouping functionality is unclear to me and is -from my perspective- quite dangerous:

Steps to reproduce:

- I monitor the folder download/Bank already. Many rules are located within this existing folder
- After updating to Hazel5 I can see this folder in my Folder / rule set
- I created a new Group
- In the new group I add the same download folder again

With creating the new Folder all rules in the existing folder disappear. This should not happen at all.

If any existing folder is selected, any deletion must be prevented. If the grouping functionality doe not allow duplication of folder, a warning must appear.

I have destroyed my whole rule set (>100 quite complex rules) and need to restore my CCC backup (which I did a minute before upgrading...)

Hope, chief noodler can help

I'm not sure if I follow the exact operations here. Do you have a video of this?

Also, do not do anything drastic. Your stuff may not be gone. First off, check the trash, do you see anything there? Secondly, check, under your home folder, Library/Application Support/Hazel. Save all the files in there and report back what you found.

Sorry, the initial description might be a bit confusing.

What I was trying to say: The new functionality of having folder groups is misleading and might be dangerous:

Scenario 1

In an existing folder "Application" there is an associated Rule. Create a new Folder Group (here "Folder Group 2"
Image

Now add the same folder "Application to the new Folder group
Image

==> The rule disappears, is not in the trash and can be found somewhere else
==> The Folder is no displayed as "Applications - OSX"

Suggestion: If I can't have different rules for the same folder within the folder groups, please do not allow a user selecting the same folder again.

Scenario 2

In the scenario from above, where I have the same folder twice, but in different folder groups I create a new rule:

Image

Now delete one of those folders.
Image

==> One folder remains, but the rule is gone for the remaining folder m(error: "File xxxxx.hazelrule couldn't be opened because there is no such file"). The rule is in the bin, but this doesn't help.

==> As above: The meaning of the folder groups is not clear and is (from my point of view) dangerous if you have many folders and just select an existing folder for another folder group.

I will not use Folder groups for the time being, so the issue should not appear....

Hope, the issue more transparent now.

Thank you for that. Much clearer. You should not be able to add the same folder twice. I will look into preventing that.
