Hazel freezes MacBook Pro

My MacBook Pro freezes when I try to create a new Hazel rule or modify an existing rule. It is not just Hazel that freezes. It is the entire computer, even the ability to shut down other than holding delete. Hazel is becoming useless to me. I am using Hazel version 4.4.5 and running Catalina Version 10.15.6
