How add "20" to the beginning of each file name? Wed Aug 05, 2020 1:26 pm • by okn
Hi and good day,

Is this possible with Hazel (vs.4.3.4 - with macOS High Sierra)

QUESTION:

→ When I drop an audio file mp3 into a Finder window, I want Hazel to add "20" to the beginning of each file name.

EXPLANATION:

My audio files look like this 200714_0152.MP3. its not from 2007 but from year 20, month 07.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

With best regards,

Use the Rename action. Type in "20" before the name attribute.

ok , thank you this works,

however

it only works in the selected folder.

Is there a way to write it so it renames the files in any folder into which it is dropped?

Hazel is designed to only operate on specific folders. You can try using a Smart Folder, which Hazel can monitor though you need to make sure you write the rule appropriate as to prevent loops as you may end up prepending "20" to the files over and over.

Alright, I understand.

Instead I'm going to write a rule (copy ~ ) for each of the few concerned folders.

Thank you,
