How to edit Hazelrules in a text editor

Hi there,

I am trying to setup a whole bunch of rules (around 800). I would like to do this in a text editor, because then I can do that pretty fast. So first of all I set up a rule, so that I have every condition I need. Then I exported it and opened it in TextWrangler. I duplicated the rule in Hazel an exported the new rule again and opened it as well in TextWrangler. I compared the two codes and there were differences! In file 1 the Text I want to edit is in row 77 and in file two the text is in row 81 (Name of the rule).

My question: Is it possible to edit code in TextWrangler and then import it as a ".hazelrules". What do I have to look up for it?

Thanks a lot for your help!

I'm curious what you're trying to do with 800(!) rules, if you don't mind saying. :)

I do not advise trying to edit the rules files directly. As asked already, I think there may be an issue with your ruleset. Could you provide some examples of the types of rules you are using. I find that in most of these cases, they can be consolidated down greatly through the use of patterns.

@sjk: Yes I know 800 are crazy :) but it works and it works without any breakdown of my system! Great little tool!

@Mr_Noodle: Thanks for your help, I'll send the rules to you through the supportmail

This is also for me solution. Maybe I have to little knowledge for using Hazel but I have a directory structure like a database and when I copy the totale structure to a new drive I have to edit all the pathnames.

with kind regards
