How to use the Orientation field? Tue Oct 04, 2011 2:09 pm • by happymartin
Hi,

When trying to define all my landscape photos I set Hazel with:

"Orientation is landscape"

After doing this I'm unable to save the rule. What happens is the "landscape" tet gets erased and I get an error saying "At least one of the conditions has an empty field. Please fill in the field or remove the condition."

I've tried changing case, including quotes and I just can't find a value to enter that Hazel accepts.

What do I need to enter to ensure only the landscape images are acted on?

Best wishes,

Martin

Note that this is a Spotlight field. Hazel isn't responsible for defining it; it just reads what's set on a file. From what I can tell, though, it appears to be numeric. From my quick tests, it seems 1 is landscape and 0 is portrait. Try that and see if that works for you.

Wow, thanks for the fast reply.

That solved it :)

FYI - I noticed that squared images are identified as landscape too however this would never be the natural size of a photo so it's not an issue for me.

Now I am using Bulkr to download the 13,000 photos from my Flickr account Hazel is transferring the landscape-oriented ones and beaming it to the WDTV to create a dynamic slideshow :)

Came here to find out how to use the Orientation condition. Writing 1 or 0 in the field after "Orientation is" does indeed identify landscape or portrait photos, however it's the other way around (on Mavericks anyway) – 1 is portrait and 0 is landscape.
