Strange File Extensions after rename Sat Jan 04, 2020 11:46 pm • by Tango2
I just realized I'm having an issue that seems to be Hazel related. I've been running Hazel 3.3.8 build 1321 for some time now. I'm currently running catalina 10.15. I noticed on a media workflow I've been using for some time now that all of my MP4 files are being renamed with MP4.0 as the extension. I'm having to go back and manually batch rename them to MP4. I just checked my rule, and the added ".0" is not in my naming convention. Additionally, the same rule renames all files in the folder - not just MP4 files. The other files are being renamed correctly without modifying the extension. Here's a quick cut/paste from the log file that shows Hazel is indeed adding the ".0" to the original file name that did not have it.

2020-01-04 22:35:20.777 hazelworker[431] [File Event] File renamed: /Volumes/User Drives/Users/Travis/Pictures/Image Workflow/2. Ready for Import/GX021537.MP4 renamed to /Volumes/User Drives/Users/Travis/Pictures/Image Workflow/2. Ready for Import/20200104-9.51.42.0_GX021537.MP4.0.

Any ideas?

First off, I'm surprised version 3.3.8 runs on Catalina. I would highly recommend running the latest version. For this particular issue, it's a bug in Catalina that was worked around in the latest Hazel releases.

I know that updating would probably be best when version 4 came out, but initially the only problem I had noticed was the text couldn't be read on the rules page unless it was highlighted. I was hoping there would be an upgrade path, as it seems as soon as I purchase a software, there's a paid upgrade that is released...

Thanks for confirming that this bug is fixed in the latest version.
