error during rule evaluation Tue Dec 31, 2019 2:30 pm • by cengel
Scenario:
Running Mojave 10.14.6, Hazel 4.4.4. Hazelhelper enabled in security control panel for full disk access.
* rules that rename files based on existing filenames seem to work fine.
* the problem appears to be rules that require an import of text
* I've run hazel with these rules for years with incremental changes over time without much problem until yesterday -- can't figure anything that I changed that corresponded with onset.
* rule preview indicates "could not import text" message for parts of any rule I've evaluated that requires this.
* logfile for this kind of rule generates a message similar to the following:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've tried a couple of things to resolve, without success:
1. Reset the permissions for my home folder per the following: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203538
2. Ran a repair on the disk: https://support.apple.com/guide/disk-ut ... tl1040/mac

These steps made no difference.

Suggestions?

Thank you,
~Chuck

Are you able to search the file in Preview and find the text? How about using Hazel's preview function? How does it look there?

* Text comes up if I search in preview (or if I search for content in Finder etc).
* Rule preview indicates "could not import text" message for parts of any rule I've evaluated that requires this.
* This is occurring for all rules that are attempting to access text as part of the rule in at least two major folders.
Thank you,
Chuck

Can you turn on debug mode as described here: https://www.noodlesoft.com/kb/hazel-debug-mode/

Report back with new logs, which hopefully should have more information.

Are you by any chance using a cloud drive or an encrypted drive? I have found that since the latest update a few days ago, Hazel cannot import the metadata from files in my Boxcryptor drive. I.e. it can't read the text in the files.

The files I'm trying to change are in dropbox. I've got a couple of other clouds (icloud, OneDrive) but don't directly affect this content. The whole computer, however, is backed up to a work related cloud called carbonite endpoint.

I suggest emailing it in as an attachment. Click the "Contact Support" button in Hazel's "Info" section.

I too have this problem. Hazel no longer works at all when it needs to read the text in a PDF. Was there any solution to the above thread or is Hazel no longer usable on Mojave?
