Hazel change only part of a filename? Tue Jul 16, 2019 9:51 pm • by Daskarzine
Hi - is it possible to only change part of a filename?

For example, if I have a file in a folder titled NoodleSoft.Dec.2018, can I change it to Noodlesoft.July.2019?

This is made up and the original file would always be the same at the start, but would have characters following my designated change area.

So the file could be called NoodleSoft.Dec.208.123456AbCdE - ALL I want to change is NoodleSoft.Dec.2018, but the rest of the characters stay in place!

Thank you!

Look up "match patterns" in the help. Using those, you can create a custom attribute to grab the text you want to keep. Once you have that, you can use it in the Rename action.

OK, thanks, I see it's hidden away a bit!
