Newbie "Count" help please Tue Jun 04, 2019 1:05 pm • by mlondon
Hi,
Grateful for some help here.
(I tried doing this myself, but after trying a bunch of things didnt get anywhere)

I have a folder with a large number of files I have to read. Each day I create a new sub-folder with the name DONE-(today'sDate).
I would like Hazel to monitor all folders that start with the name "DONE" and automatically add the number of files the folder contains to the end of the folder name.
ie: "DONE-0604-3" if there are 3 files inside the folder.

Thank you.

In the Rename action, you can try using the "Number of items" attribute. It's a Spotlight attribute so you need to select "other" and then find it in the list.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
I tried that, but each time the rule runs, it appends to the existing folder name instead of updateing it.
ie: DONE-0605-1, then DONE-0605-1-1, DONE-0605-1-1-1
rather than my desired outcome: DONE-0605-1, DONE-0605-2, DONE-0605-3

How to get it to update the name rather than use the previous folder name each time it updates?

You need to add a condition to prevent that. You can try using "Name matches" and match the pattern. Or you could add some sort of tag.

Hi, Appreciate the reply.
I looked in the manual regarding Name Matches, but have no idea how to use this to accomplish my goal. Grateful for specifics.
Regarding Tags, I don't understand how this would help. Please explain.
Thank you.

Looks like this conversation has shifted to email so we'll continue this there.
