Hey Mr_Noodle

I feel like I've seen this answer before, but I can't seem to find it.

What's the order of processing rules? Is it all rules per file until one matches (excepting the option to continue processing), or is it the first rule on all files that match, then drop down?

What's the method Hazel uses to determine which file to start at? Is it based off oldest file, or alphabetical order, or...

I'm trying to work out why some things don't seem to be working the way I thought they would, and I'm wondering if it's something to do with my understanding of the order of processing.

Cheers

There's a chapter on this, but in short, the first rule that matches is the one that gets run.

The order of the files cannot be relied upon. Depending on the filesystem, it might be alphabetical or it might be seemingly random.

Ah! That explains that. Thank you!

That's a bit annoying though, not being able to work out which order it will apply the rules in. It would be nice if the filesystems played nice.
