Finder Not Recognizing Revert Quick Action Thu Feb 20, 2025 2:24 pm • by Sackaveli
Hi,

I'm on the trial version of Hazel 6 and I can't seem to get the revert functionality to work. Here's my flow:

right click on Hazel processed file
select customize (revert doesn't show natively)
this open finder settings, check "finder extensions" in the Hazel section
click done
right click on file again
vicious cycle begins....(only thing that shows up in quick actions is "markup"

I've tried restarting Hazel and force relaunching Finder

What did you have Hazel do to the file?

I’ve tried to revert on several files that Hazel processed.

Typically it on renamed the PDF and filed/moved it to another folder. Nothing crazy.

Did you disable the Finder extension? Are you running version 6.0.4? If so, check the menubar item menu. The same options should appear there.

I am running 6.04. I've had the previous version that I paid for. Didn't know I would have to pay for 6.

"If so, check the menubar item menu. The same options should appear there." - This isn't very clear to me.

The finder extension not disabled. I've toggled enable/disable a few times.

This is my death spiral again:
right click on Hazel processed file
select customize (revert doesn't show natively)
this open finder settings, check "finder extensions" in the Hazel section
click done
right click on file again
vicious cycle begins....(only thing that shows up in quick actions is "markup"

Are you comfortable using the commandline? If so, enter the following command:

xattr <path to file>

where <path to file> is the full path to the file that Hazel processed. You can drag the file into the Terminal window to paste it in there.

Not sure what it was supposed to do but I got this:

xattr </Users/darrenhoward/Downloads/Gameday\ W170/RAW/sqb4xdkf1fim7si9scx.jpg>
zsh: parse error near `\n'

Also my trial expires tonight. Is there a way to extend it until we figure this out to see if I purchase this new version or keep using my old already paid for version?

Do not include the angle brackets (<>).

Try giving Terminal Full Disk Access in System Settings.

Ok. It returned this:

com.apple.macl
com.noodlesoft.Hazel.RevertData

Ok, so the revert data is there.

If you are running 6.0.4, instead of the Finder contextual menu, try Hazel's menubar menu. It mirrors the same functionality.

Well kind of defeats the purpose of the functionality, no? Being able to see a file in finder and revert that particular file. How would I re-enact that with Hazel?

Fos instance, going to the Hazel menu now, "Revert Changes" is greyed out. And even if it weren't, what file would it revert. The last file processed?

The point is I'm trying to isolate the problem. Whether it works there or not says something.

And it works just like in Finder. It reflects the currently selected file in the frontmost window in Finder.

Understood.

But "Revert changes" is always greyed out. I even processed a file then went to the menu option and it's greyed out. Nothing I do makes it selectable. Neither Hazel menus' revert function is available. See screenshots.
