FTP Upload crashes HazelWorker Sat Jun 22, 2013 6:10 am • by AlexK
Hi,

I was ecstatic to see the new FTP upload feature. Sadly, it isn't working for me.

I have a very simple rule that checks for a new directory that starts with "0" and has a green color label. Then I want to upload it to the server.

These are two of the recently generated crash logs as well as the rule I created.

The FTP account was specifically created for this Hazel rule, so already point to the correct folder. Also, when I put in the server details, I was able to browse the folder just fine in the window that comes up.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the report and the dumps. I'm looking into it.

Looking at it more closely, there's a problem where it's bombing while trying to report an error during the upload. Are you willing to run a test build? If so, please email support.

The same thing happened to me almost. I used Hazel 3.1.1. Instead of crashing, the hazelhelper used over 100% of CPU and I had to force quit System Preferences.

When I first tried to configure plain FTP upload (simple, no fancy SFTP or similar) I was presented with the file structure of my server. I navigated to the folder where I wanted Hazel to put the file and hit "Enter". I had a simple test rule to look for "any" file and then upload it. My file was a simple screenshot. It did not work.

I then de-installed Hazel and did a re-install. I also restarted my Mac (Mountain Lion on MacBook Air mid-2012, all the latest software). I have tried it a couple of more times but with the same result.

The worst inconvenience so say it mildly was that my hosting provider apparently had received so many login attempts that it blocked me from not only accessing my files via FTP on my server but also viewing my own site and even accessing their support page. Fortunately I had the direct email address and phone number to get unblocked. Just a minute before I tried the upload feature I was very well able to login to my server just fine.

In summary, the upload function in Hazel seems to me not ready for prime time. Please fix.

Have you tried 3.1.2? Hazel Release Notes mentions changes that may be relevant to issues reported here.
