Move only files in folder/sub-folders Mon Jun 17, 2013 4:10 am • by silverhand31
I did it with service in Automator, now I wanna try with Hazle but
example:
Code: Select all
Big folder/sub1/<many files>
               /sub2<many files>
               /sub3/sub4/<many files>

I want to apply the rule for the Big folder.
It'll find any files that match my rule ( extension is "jpg"), I move THOSE files to my picture folder.
I tried many ways, but end up Hazle move all the folder that contain it (like sub1, sub2, sub3)
Can you help me. Thanks. 13day trial to go

I'm having the exact same issue (I'm holding off from purchasing until I can find a solution).

Below is a screenshot of my current rule. What I want to do is to move only files with the extension pdf. At the moment the rule is moving the subfolders as well as the enclosing pdf files (even if the folder also contains files which do not have a pdf extension - and they get moved too along with the pdfs).

Mac OS10.8.4 with latest software updates.

There are perhaps 2 options which could possibly be included in a menu for the move;

1. move specified [file(s) without enclosing sub folder]/ [specified folder(s) with any contents] only.

2. if search returns file types, move specified file(s) along with enclosing sub folder(s) > with warning/error dialog if folder also contains unspecified files. [if error dialog, an option to copy the file results to the specified 'move to folder', leaving the original folder and contents untouched]

I can visualise times when all these options would be very useful when sorting files/folders.

Do not use the "any of its subfile" target. "its" in that phrase refers to the folder containing those files and any actions in that rule will apply to the folder, not the files. See the sticky article at the top about how to go into folders and match and act upon the files therein.

Did tried.
The point is, It also recognized folders because of the rule from if "any". So if hazel move file, it will also move the folders.

Edited: Ah, I understood how the things go. First apply the rule: go to sub folders, then apply everything else to other rules. Not an elegant way but work. Hope you guys could improve hazel more. Because not everyone are patient like me zzzzz
