I'm new to Hazel and think it could just be the lifesaver I'm seeking. I wanted to ask the advice of the experts. I'm trying to batch move subfolders (Artist/Album Name) contained in a master folder called "Music" according to the type of file contained in the sub-folder (e.g. .FLAC, .AIFF, .MP3, .M4A, etc.). What rules do I need to create to not only move the files into the new folder, such as those with the extension e.g FLAC but also have the subfolder move with it, so that I don't end up with thousands of FLAC files without the folder they were originally contained in. I imagine this is base-level stuff but I'm a total newbie. Thanks!!!!

One more addition to my initial post. I have plenty of situations where inside the folder "Music", there is an artist folder, say called "Bill Frisell", and there are two albums contained therein, one called "Disfarmer" the other called "Unspeakable". Is there a way to have Hazel move only the folder called "Disfarmer" if it is the one that contains ".flac" files and move the actual files, and the directory from where it comes, both the album name folder and the artist name folder into a new directory Music--->Flac? I'd like to do this is a batch operation.

I'm curious what your reason for doing that is, if you don't mind saying. :)

Because the way I use my music varies by the way they are encoded, and it is easier to get to the files quickly and completely when they are grouped this way.

Thanks for the explanation, lgoler.

I was wondering if your audio files could be easily accessible the way you want in contexts you want using metadata searches (e.g. a Kind:FLAC Audio Spotlight query) so it wouldn't be necessary to move and reorganize them from current locations. No intention of discouraging Hazel usage whenever it's worthwhile.
