Sort into Subfolder with Copy?

Is it possible to sort a copy into a subfolder, rather than move? I need to copy a file to a parent folder then subfolder, and a custom token works, where the path is ..\CustomToken and the action is Sort into subfolder. But this moves the file. However, when I do a copy, I no longer have the ability to define the variable path, just a literal path. And there is no Copy option for Sort into Subfolder.
The closest I can come is a rule that copies the file in the same folder and appends something like #, then another rules that sorts that into sub folders, and another that strips the #. Hopefully someone has a nice "thinking out of the box" approach here that I am missing.

As I understand it, you need three copies of the file. (1) In the original location (2) in a parent folder and (3) in a subfolder of the original location. Is this correct?

Seems odd to me to need that many copies but you can try copying the file back to the top of the folder tree after sorting it into a subfolder. A bit roundabout but it should work.
