custom fields in open meta tags? Mon Nov 26, 2012 6:11 pm • by jamest
Hi,

I have one simple question, it would be great to have "dynamic" tags, based on my files. So is it possible to use custom fiels for open meta tags? Because drag and drop doesn't work.

Thanks and Best Regards

Background is, I need these tags for using a tagging software like Leaf. :)

The OpenMeta action does not take patterns. I've added this to the feature database for future consideration but keep in mind that OpenMeta support is not official so it's a low priority feature.

Note that Hazel is just running the OpenMeta commandline program so you can try and rig something up via a script in the meantime.

I'll reply here to cast in my vote for further developing OpenMeta support.
Here's my scenario.. I'd like to have all files within "project A" folder to automatically be tagged with the name of that folder, within that folder I'll have a bunch of other folders like "Notes" and "App Graphics" or "web" etc. I'd like to do this so that I can hit caseApps' tag browser with "get me all web stuff from project A" or "show me notes from project A" or just show me everything from Project A.. yes, I can do this by adding tags manually, but that's still _manual_ work.. if only I could do that without the manual work ie. have hazel do the tagging based on enclosing folder names, I'd be a happy camper!

thanks!
