Migrating to a New Mac Wed Feb 20, 2013 1:40 pm • by milohuang
Hello, I want to ask a question about migrating from one mac to another mac.

I am using Hazel 3 on my old MBP13 running Lion, with home folder username as userA.
Hazel monitors folder A1 with lots of rules, and move files out of folder A1 to folder A2.

I just bought a new MBP15 running Mountain Lion with username as userB.
And if I just copy (manually) all the files and folder in MBP13 to MBP15 and set up Hazel, will Hazel smart enough to work as it were in MBP13 where it moves files out of folder A1 to folder A2 on the new MBP15?
Will the change in home folder name affect Hazel?
Will Hazel fail to recognize folder A2 because of the Unix ID being not the same?

Thank you and waiting for the reply :)

Hazel uses aliases internally to store references to folders. I can't say for certain whether things will transfer over ok. If it's across drives and you are doing a copy (instead of a move), probably not. I would be prepared to edit the rules to fix all the folder references if necessary.

Thanks for the reply. Wondering if there is a way that I can edit the rules myself, other than that, maybe I will just export and import those rules again manually.
