I am finally tackling the massive undertaking of organizing 500GB of photos. Obviously, it's a bit daunting and overwhelming, but Hazel seems to be to the rescue.

My only problem right now, is getting my images into appropriate subfolders.

Since all the dates on my photos are different (date added, date modified...) I'd like to try to sort by the date the actual photograph was taken. This way, I'll have some idea where to find photos from various events (birth of my niece/nephew, Christmas photos, etc.)

Is there a way to do this?

I have searched the forums and can't find anything -- perhaps I am using the wrong terminology. I have also scoured Google.

Suggestions?

I am a professional photographer and have my "photo job" organization under control -- I'm just trying to handle all the personal photography now.

Thanks for the assistance!

Not that I have seen, the closest would be date created, surely that would do it?

I have to say that I am very new here but I don't like to see people going without answers.

I think date created is the best way right now. While EXIF data contains the date the photo was taken, Apple's Spotlight importer for JPEGs doesn't seem to map that to any sort of metadata that Hazel can get to. You may want to bug Apple about that as it seems like a stupid omission on their part.
