File moved and duplicated...45 times and counting!

Hi,

I have a simple rule that acts on a folder on my desktop. When I place a file into this folder, Hazel will move (not copy) it to a folder on my external drive. Kind of an archive.

I placed a Lion install app into the folder before lunch and came back to find that it had moved it 45 times, and was still going! This is a 3.79gb file, so consequently, my time machine backup had kicked in and was deleting backups to create space for all this 'new' stuff.

I have the 'if file exists' option set to rename so I'm not sure why this happened. Also, despite the move, the file was still in my desktop folder.

What on earth happened?

Check the logs. Go to Hazel's Info section and click "View Log". I suggest emailing it in as it may be a bit long to post in the forums.

Found the error;

"2012-11-05 09:55:51.071 hazelfolderwatch[57474] Error moving file /Users/leewebb/Desktop/Move to Lossless/Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 2.app to /Volumes/iTunes/Lossless/Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 2.app: -36 - I/O error (bummers)
2012-11-05 09:55:51.090 hazelfolderwatch[57474] [Error] Move failed: Could not move file Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 2.app from folder"

Don't know what it means though...

Unfortunately, it's a vague error. What happens if you try and move the file yourself in Finder?

To be clear on this one point, this is expected behavior. If you have "set to rename" Hazel WILL continue to copy the file, renaming each new copy with a sequential number.
