Copy a file once Thu Aug 23, 2012 6:44 am • by Tiff_Sunbacon
I want Hazel watch a specific folder and copy any file added to another folder (on another drive). I'm using the 'any file' criteria which is resulting in Hazel performing the same action over and over which leaves me with endless duplications in the target folder.

Is there a way to simple ask Hazel to make a copy of a file when it is added - and only when it is added - and to put the copy in another folder?

I'm sure I'm missing something basic!

Thanks

You're going to have to flag the file somehow so that Hazel does not re-copy it. There are several ways of doing this:

• Adding file color
• Adding a spotlight comment
• Adding an intermediary folder that copies the file to one directory and moves the file to the other directory

I think the third option is best, but if your workflow depends on a two folder setup, then spotlight comments will work better.

Let me know if you're having difficulty adding or detecting spotlight comments.

"Any file" matches every file every time. If you only want something done when added, try "Date added is after date last matched".

Both good solutions. Thanks.
