Finder Removing Color Labels on Rename? Hazel Workflow Break

Hi everyone,

I’m running into a problem with Hazel and color labels, and I’m wondering if anyone else has seen this behavior recently.

I’ve been using a workflow for years where Hazel renames files and then assigns a color label, and later rules use those labels to decide whether a file should be moved or left in place. It’s always worked fine until recently.

What’s happening now is that if I manually rename a file after Hazel has already processed it, macOS seems to strip the color label. As soon as that happens, Hazel treats the file as “new” and re‑applies the original rule, undoing my manual rename and restoring the old label. This breaks my whole setup because I rely on the color labels to control later actions.

Is there any way to prevent Finder/macOS from removing the color label when I manually rename a file, or to stop Hazel from reprocessing it when only the name changes? I’d really like to avoid rebuilding my entire workflow if possible.

Thanks in advance to anyone who has ideas or workarounds.
