Trouble Adjusting Column Widths – Unpredictable Behavior

I'm encountering a frustrating issue regarding the adjustment of column widths. I've been a power user for over three years, and Hazel has served me well. However, this issue continues to be disruptive, to the point where I'm hesitant to start new projects:

  • When I attempt to make Hazel's window smaller, the columns auto-resize unpredictably. This would be fine if the resizing happened logically. However, one column might become very narrow, obscuring half its contents, while another column becomes much wider than necessary.
  • Furthermore, if I try to manually adjust that very narrow column, it will be locked and won't budge. The only way to unlock the column adjustment is to widen the entire Hazel window. When I do that, one of the other columns (not the narrow one) will instantly widen for some reason; it's as if the columns are set to snap to alignment with some invisible grid.
  • The most maddening aspect happens when I go to widen that very narrow column, which is now unlocked. In this case, the narrow column is the middle column, "Rules." Dragging the right side of the column widens it as expected, but inexplicably, the left column, "Folders," also gets wider, making that column too wide.
  • The only time I'm able to freely adjust column widths is when I make the Hazel the full width of my screen.

I searched the forums and found only one thread addressing this topic, but it didn't provide a solution to my problem. Has anyone else experienced similar issues? Are there any workarounds or tips to manage column widths more effectively? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Can you post screenshots? As for your second point, if it won't budge, that is because all columns are at their minimum width. That is why you need to widen the window. I've thought of having the window widen if you try and widen a column though, as far as I can tell, this is not standard behavior. If you can find an example of an app doing this, let me know.

I found this post when searching for answers to my similar issue.
I am now unable to narrow the Folders column any further. This is a recent issue for me that I just noticed this past week. I cannot drag the overall window any narrower, nor the Folder Column specifically. The window is occupying 90% of my 16-inch MacBook Pro screen. I have attached screenshots of it in all three window configurations.

Is the full folder list shown in that screenshot or is there some of it scrolled off? Is there a folder with a super long name?

Yes, the entirety of my folder list is shown in Pic 1 and 3.
If you are trying to figure out if there are any folders with longer names that are not showing, then the answer to that is no.

Does anything change if you re-order folders or move them in or out of a group?

It does not. I just pulled all folders out of all groups and deleted the groups, but the issue persists.
