Hey all,
So long story short hazel is helping me run a render farm of 16 G5's. Everything seems to work except that I need a droplet from compressor to not only open but submit a to batch monitor. So in actuality I need hazel to 'drag and drop' a file onto the droplet. 1: can Hazel do this? 2: if not does anyone know how to have a droplet automatically submit an action if I have hazel open up the droplet?

The point of this project is to have a hands off farm where students have a fast compression of multiple video files. Essentially they would drop files into the farm via network and the plan would be for the farm to spit them out, rendered, into a 'completed' folder.

Thanks in advance,

I don't know Compressor or how its droplets work but you may want to check their documentation/support about any other ways to submit files to it. You can also try using the record feature in Automator. It's probably not the best way to do it but it may work in a pinch.

There are two ways to submit a file to a droplet from compressor: Drag and drop, and to open and submit. Also my problem with automator is that I need "any file" to be moved and submitted. If I record a process it will right a script for the file that I record. I feel like im close to the solution... Im getting fairly frustrated :/

Hazel can open a file using whatever application you choose. If that doesn't work then you might want to talk to the authors as it's a pretty standard thing to support.

Definitely, however my problem is that once opened the droplet requires the 'submit' button to be pressed. This step can be passed if a file is 'dragged and dropped' onto the .app since the droplet assumes that this is intentional. Essentially the problem with having hazel open the .app is that it then requires human interaction. Which is what I am trying to avoid since it is quite safe to assume some student would find a way to break my render farm. Thanks again for your help and persistence with this issue. Do you have any other ideas?

Thanks

Could you have Hazel send the file to Compressor then record an Automator action (triggered by Hazel) to click the Submit button?
