Hazel 6.0.3 not activating rules Mon Nov 25, 2024 6:09 pm • by wlaims
Thanks, I did read the troubleshooting posts and couldn't find anything wrong.

New install, worked for like 30 mins and saw the rules executed, but new files that matches the rule isn't working.

Images aren't coming through. If you don't have a cloud sharing service you already use, you can upload the images to imgur.com and link to there.

Did you edit out the rule list? Can you show that? It's an important detail.

Yes, I did edit out the default Rules. Here's the current state. Come to think of it, it stopped working just around then. I imported a set of rules from someone on Reddit, modified and added some, then went thru all the rules (including the default) and deletd the rules that I didn't need. Now none of the rules seem to be activating. Thanks for your help, just need to make sure it works during the trial period, and this is the only problem.

Can you try adding a different folder to Hazel, copying the rules over and see if the rules work there?

I added Document Folder as a second folder, New Rules to create a rule and it matched and worked correctly.

I then removed the Downloads Folder from Hazel, re-added it with some Rules, and that still isn't matching. So it seems to be an issue specifically with Downloads.

Is it worth reinstalling the app? I tried and couldn't move the Application to Trash. In Terminal it indicates there are a number of process under Hazel running, can I kill -9 them?

Have you given Hazel full disk access? Do you have your Downloads/Document folders set to sync with iCloud?

I did. It worked for a while and stopped working when I cleared out the original set of rules, and imported some I found on the interweb.

But good news, it started working after you asked me to add a different folder. I can't tell you exactly when it started working but it did, and all the rules seem to be firing now. The only change I did was add a new folder, and tried a rule on the Document folder, which worked. Then I tested my Downloads folder and thought it didn't work, but "magically" it started working. That's the good news. But I still don't know what the issue was, but I think I'll just let the sleeping dog lie for now.

Thanks for your help.
