Applications permission issue

I have a simple workflow to add a color tag to old applications.
I’m running into many permission issues like this:

Code: Select all: 2 minutes ago : You don’t have permission to save the file “Adobe Creative Cloud” in the folder “Applications”.

Some apps go through, some don’t.
I have enabled Full-Disk access and App Management permissions for Hazel as well.

Is there anything I can do here?

Can you go into the logs (Help->View Logs) and see if there are more errors there?

One thing I’ve noticed when looking at the permissions of the Apps in question is that the failed ones seem to have system assigned to read&write permissions, and the Apps that work have my user as a read&write entity.

Can you post screenshots of that?

When I use tags action it gives (OSStatus error -5000.) which seems to be the same permissions issue.

Here’s the screenshot - GarageBand should be tagged / labeled red, but is failing on the permissions error, while Firefox is properly labelled.

Is it possible that it’s something to do with how the app is installed? GarageBand is from AppStore, Firefox is not, but in this case, I wonder why I haven’t seen many other reports of such issues, when there are many common apps not accessible through App Store, so many users should face it.

I have noticed that I am having a lot of trouble with color tags with this version of MacOS. In scripts color tags are rtefered to as labels with indices. I recently posted the following on another site but I have had no response as yet.

My MacBook is running OS Sequoia 15.1. How can I apply file color tags (labels) using zsh shell script? And how can I then use a shell script to change labels say if I want to change a label from green to red?

I have tried many variations using osascript commands but nothing seems to work. Every attempt returns an error stating that finder can't set label index. Is there a way to color tag MacOS files other than using osascript?

Here is an example of what happens using terminal:

% touch "/Users/xxxxxx/test_file.txt" osascript -e 'tell application "Finder" to set label index of POSIX file "/Users/xxxxxx/test_file.txt" to 2'

I get the same thing using osascript command in a bash script. I also cannot get Hazel or Keyboard Maestro to set file tags.

Oh, I should have noticed this before. These are apps in your Applications folder. Those are usually set so that you need admin access to do anything with them.

Not really a good idea to do that. You might be able to rig something up with a setuid script which is a bit more advanced and also more dangerous.
