Move files to a new folder? Thu Mar 31, 2011 1:08 pm • by pbain
Is it possible to create a rule or applescript that
1. creates a new folder and then
2. moves existing files to the new folder.

For example, I like to save installed applications on a folder in a remote drive along with a printout of the receipt. What I typically do is create a new folder (e.g., Hazel) and then put the application .dmg file in the folder along with a .pdf of the receipt of purchase. I'll then put the new folder on my time capsule in another folder called "Installed Applications" for safekeeping.

Any help would be appreciated.
Please forgive me if this rule already exists, I'm new to Hazel and I'm trying to tap into its functionality.

First off, please keep questions in the support forum. The tips forum is for people to share tips.

I'm not sure how you are grouping the files together but the "Sort into subfolder" action will allow you to specify a subfolder to put the files in, creating it if it doesn't exist. What's not clear to me is what criteria you would use to group these files and name the folder. That's something you'll have to come up with.
