Moving Files to a Webdav Client Sat Feb 19, 2022 10:54 am • by JDogg016
Good Morning,

I have a software application called Clio Drive (to manage storage of my legal files). Clio Drive is a newer piece of software that creates a Webdav connection through Finder which permits me to drag and drop files.

I currently have a Hazel Rule that monitors a local folder 'Temp' on my Mac. Rules within 'Temp' move files based upon the files' Tags.

The Rule is simple (and forgive that I do not know how to upload the images of the rules and/messages).

If file type is PDF and Tag = X, move PDF to [WEBDAV Drive/Folder].

Certain Tags will move files to the WebDav drive, however this is where the problem begins:

Whenever I try to move a file, I receive an error message from the Clio Drive Software stating as below:
"[file name] is still uploading and can't be moved. Please wait until uploading completes!"

I then receive a second message from Clio Drive stating "The file you are trying to delete is still being uploaded."

On the WebDave drive there is a newly created directory '(A Document is being saved by Hazelworker [x])'.

These messages repeat over and over until I pause the rule. In other words, I receive the same message and a new directory named 'A Document is being saved by Hazelworker [x]' each time I receive the error.

Any idea how I can make this rule work?

I'm not familiar with Clio Drive but I think the issue is on their end. Control should not be returned to Hazel if the file is still being uploaded. Are you using Hazel's Move or Upload action?

I am using move. I am unsure how to use upload because Clio does not give me the server (just localhost on my Mac), port, username, or password.

I suggest contacting them as this seems like something unique to their software.

I am waiting for the software provider to contact me, but where I get confused is the following directory keeps appearing on the WebDav drive: '(A Document is being saved by Hazelworker [x])'.

Everytime the rule runs, this directory is created before displaying the error message.

That file/folder is created in cases where Hazel is interrupted in doing a file operation. It's possible to see it in other apps if you manage to interrupt them as well, in which case, you'll see that app name instead.
