Export data into csv file? Tue Feb 22, 2022 5:08 am • by killerspots
Hey everyone,

I was wondering, is there any chance to export matching content into an external csv-file?
I have a lot of documents that have always the same basic structure and I'd like to run hazel over it, find all matching results, use the renaming for renaming of the files and like to export all data into a csv-file, so I can use this to catalogue those in an excel-file.

Is there any chance to do this with hazel?

All the best and many thanks,
Paul

I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to do but to write to a file will require some sort of script as Hazel does not have any built-in actions to write out contents to a file like that.

Well,Hazel is pretty handy and easy to use to extract data from specific documents. I am currently using it to extract data from my financial depot and use this extracted data to rename the files.
I was hoping to extract more data from those documents and write them into some kind of metadata or sidecar-file (like .csv), so I can list with all data in an excel-file. There I could include data that i am not using in the filename but was extracted with hazel. Is there any chance to write extracted data into self-defined/custom metadata fields?

All the best and many thanks,
Paul

You can use tags or comments, though I will say that Finder comments can be a bit weird/flakey.

yeah I thought so too, but Finder comments are quite hard to be used within excel. I thought there might be any easier way to do this with an csv or any other sidecar-field.

Well, it seems I have to dive into scripting here...
Any scripting experts around here? I am a total beginner on this matter...

Best and many thanks
