Unwanted Copies by moving Folder Mon Feb 07, 2022 4:15 pm • by Rautnmountain
Hello,

Hazel monitors a folder "Done", where folders with several images and files are regularly moved in.
Hazel should then sort the folder with the images and files further into another folder structure in a Cloud (Tresorit).

But now Hazel moves some pictures and files individually into a duplicate.
Instead of one folder with 5 files, Hazel makes 5 folders with 1 or 2 files in each.

The only rules I have for this is....
- If Full Name - contains - "Employees XY"
- Date added - is not in the last - 1 minute

Then do:
Move - to Folder - "Folder "Employees XY" in Cloud "

But Hazel do this not every time.
At first I thought the Folder needs to stay in the Folder "Done" for some time. I changed the Rule to 2 minutes.
But still there will created several duplicates with only 1 or 2 pictures in it instead 1 Folder with all files.

Does anybody know what this could be?

If you are moving folders into "Done", your rule will match those folders and move the whole folder, not the files within. You'll need to create a separate rule to tell Hazel to go into those folders (and only those folders; not the folders you sort them into). You may then also need a rule to remove the folders after they are emptied.

I am not sure if I understand.

I have moved Folders with all the files within for about 2 years.
Since a few weeks ago it is only working in 90% because Hazel makes 5 folders from 1 folder.

I need to move the whole Folder with all Files within :/

You can't do it by moving the whole folder. You need to set up rules to (a) move the individual files, setting options such as maintaining the folder structure and (b) tell Hazel to go into subfolders so it can reach those files.

Ok... but how can I do this and why does it work in 90%?

So...

I need to do...

1. Copy Folder withs Files
2. Then Create in the Folderstructure a new Folder with the exact same Name of the Folder.
3. Then move all files from the original Folder in the copied one
4. Then delete original Folder.

Correct?

Not exactly. Do #3 and #4. There's an option when moving files to maintain the folder structure. #4 can check for an empty folder. After that, the problem is Hazel getting to those files in the subfolders. The manual has a chapter on this (search for "subfolders"). It requires a separate rule to tell Hazel which folders it can go into.
