Tags in Google drive

I've been ignoring GDrive for a few years but have just had cause to use it again. I'm hoping to be able to manage stuff in it with Hazel at least to some degree. From a quick look around in here it does seem quite a few people are having issues with it. This may be another one ... ?

I've set up some rules on a specific folder within GDrive. Most seem to be doing fine. But there's one that involves applying a Finder tag ("hidden"). That doesn’t seem to be working. And from a closer inspection the tag in the rule has a different appearance from normal. Plus there's an endlessly spinning cog thingy at the end of the field, which I don't think is normal.

I'll attach an image, although the tag is pretty tiny so not sure how it will go. Appearance-wise it has a dotted border and light background rather than the normal Russian blue (?) background with no border.

Is there any solution to this? Or is it just another Google mystery?

The dotted outline means that it's a new tag not yet used on the system. The spinning progress indicator means that Hazel is still scanning your system for existing tags so it may not have loaded all the tags yet.

Well it isn't a new tag on my system; I have hundreds of files with that tag. Or could it behave that way because it's new on GDrive? The cog never stops spinning. And the tag hasn't been applied to any of the several matching files.

It's doing a Spotlight search for tags. It may take a while depending on your Spotlight setup and how well it's working.

Right. So would the fact that it's taking longer to search have to do with the fact that it's the GDrive?

That I can't say. Many of the cloud/NAS products out there are pretty opaque and some do things in a weird way. You could try turning Google drive off temporarily to see if that changes anything.
