Hazel will not start Fri Nov 27, 2020 8:06 am • by MeLlamanHokage
I'm using Hazel version 4.4.4 (build 1576)
on macOS 10.14.6

Hazel overall will not respond or function as expected.
Specifically launching Hazel from it's System Preferences window yeilds no result.
I can click the "Start Hazel" button but the button only "activates" to show that I clicked it.
Hazel does not appear in the Menu Bar nor does the status, "Hazel is stopped" change.

I've tried using "Check Now," but that opens my non default browser window to the current tab.
No website begins to load.
The result is the same if I click "Contact Support."

However, when I click on "Visit Website," the home page of noodlesoft.com opens in my default browser like normal.

My current set up won't take anymore macOS updates.
What do you think I might try here?

Thank you

Try checking the logs. Also, you may want to try updating to 4.4.5. You can find older versions of Hazel here: http://www.noodlesoft.com/old-versions/

Thank you!
I will try that
Also I’ll probably try updating to 5 for the $20 sometime this week
Will it work on Mojave?

Thanks again

Yes, Hazel 5 is for 10.13 or later.

Ah so does this mean I should not expect 4.4.5 to work with Mojave at all?
this would confirm the issues I'm having with getting the logs

Seeing a lot of this when I click "Start Hazel":

Code: Select all

And by a lot I mean it's printing this every 3-4 milliseconds for 3 minutes
Also console is exceptionally unresponsive when attempting simple tasks like highlighting text or copying text

It seems like permissions are incorrect in Hazel's support folder. Under your home folder, go to Library/Application Support/Hazel. Make sure that folder and everything within it are readable and writable by you.
