Manipulating files on an NTFS volume

So I have Hazel running on my iMac, networked to my Win10 PC. Hazel monitors a few folders on the Windows PC, and renames and moves files as part of these rules. Moving the files to the iMac before letting Hazel manipulate them is not an option for a variety of reasons.

I do own a copy of Paragon's NTFS for Mac software, but it is not installed on this particular Mac. Yet, Hazel seems to have no problem renaming and moving files on the NTFS volume.

I guess this is an answer in search of a problem, but I just can't understand why it works. This is kind of like the time Gilligan was flying with the wax & feather wings*, until the Skipper told him it was impossible, and he immediately plummeted to the ground. I am worried that one day it might trash the whole NTFS folder. Should I install NTFS for Mac on the iMac? Or should I just say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it??

You only need to have your Mac support NTFS if you connect the drive directly to it. If they are networked, they are using SMB (most likely) which is a network protocol so it won't matter if the Mac can't read that filesystem. I suspect that you should be fine but it's always a good idea in general to keep good backups.

Yes, they are using SMB. So I guess the network protocol takes care of the OS-Filesystem incompatibility by some sort of translation? I don't know much (ok, anything) about networking but that's what I'm getting from your reply. Thanks.

Yes, the network protocol hides those details so, for the most part, it shouldn't matter how it's formatted as long as the server can read it.
