Feature request: Make Hazel applescriptable Wed Apr 28, 2010 11:09 am • by Kha
Hi there,

I have a request. As the title says, I think it would be extremely useful if Hazel is to become applescriptable. I am not an extreme automator, but from the times I've used the application I personally think it would make the scope of the program much wider if it supported it. An example is if Hazel can somehow report the file names it is working on to Applescript, or in the case I need, the tags that it "matched" of the files. This would make its integration with the Applescripts I'm using much more smoother.

Thanks and let me know what you think regarding this.

There are issues with this since Hazel runs as a pref pane. I could make the helper scriptable though. That said, I'm not sure how it would work in your case. In this case, you are expecting Hazel to somehow report via AppleScript to something else in the system. Not sure how it would know who to report to. Maybe there's some AS mechanism for this I don't know about?

Here is an example of what I mean, let's say that I need a way for Hazel to report the tokens of the file names it has matched to Applescript so that it can log them into a text file via TextEdit. That's all I am trying to do :)

I have another request, should I write it here or in another thread? :)

So, you want to write an AppleScript to query Hazel on how it matched the last run? I apologize but I'm still a big vague on what you are asking for here.

If the other request fits the topic, then post here otherwise it might be better to do a new one.

I'd have to think about it. It may be better if you scrape the logs or add a script in your rule to report whatever it is you want.
