Force Hazel to Run Actions Sequentially Mon Apr 05, 2010 11:00 pm • by nickchristensen
Hello, first, the obligatory 'I love Hazel, it + applescript are why I switched to the mac, blah blah'.

Now, is there a way to force Hazel to wait until one action is done before starting the next? I have a rule that finds music in my downloads folder, opens it (where iTunes imports it automatically), and then trashes the file. I have noticed that semi-frequently Hazel will bump the file before iTunes is done with it, and it won't be imported into my library. Therefore I would love two things:

1) The ability to force Hazel to be patient, and take one bite at a time so it doesn't choke on my music.

2) An action, like all others, that would simply be Wait for XX seconds/minutes/hours, where the user could manually put a timeout in the middle of the chain of actions.

It's not a case of Hazel being patient but more that iTunes doesn't say when it's done (or that it's even doing anything with the file). Also, how are you going about importing the file? Are you using the built-in action for that (and if not, why not)?

This:
Version 2.3.7
Fixed bug introduced in last release where busy files were not being detected properly. In the most obvious case, this resulted in Hazel sometimes processing files while they were still being used. One less obvious case resulted in copies of files being made when moving across filesystems (which appears to be an Apple bug). This should now be avoided with this fix.

Mr. Noodle, I daresay I would have your baby, if it was physiologically possible.

Um, that's quite alright.

Sorry it took me a bit to discover and diagnose the busy file problem (though there still may be some issues with it for some people). Does this mean this is working for you now?
