Hello,

I would really appreciate help with this problem I having. This cannot be that hard... but I cannot fix it.

I have a folder with a few nested folders with in it. I want to set up a rule that looks for any new file placed in the main folder (and any of the sub folders) and make a copy of it to a back up drive.

I have set up a rule that works ONLY if I manually tell it to run from the drop down menu. I really would like it to run on its own.

I have the following, For Main Folder, "If ANY of the following conditions are met: Any File, Date Added is Today, Copy to Back Up Folder".

As I said... if I go the menu bar and have it run the rule it works. But it does not run automatically like my other rules.

I figure this is something simple I am missing.
Thanks so much for any help.

First off, get rid of the "Any file" condition. It makes it so the rule always matches so it makes no sense having any other conditions on it. As a result, the rule will match once and not execute again unless you force it. That is because the condition doesn't change so Hazel sees no reason to re-execute the file.

Also, if you want all new files to match, you should use "Date Added is after Date Last Matched". "Date added is today" would work mostly but won't cover cases such as Hazel being disabled for a day then you re-enable it. It won't catch files that were added during the down period.
