I need help with this rule that is not working for some reason. It’s supposed to move all files that were not created “Today” to another folder. For some reason, it won’t work. It worked when I first set it up, but now when I click the Run Rules Now button, it won’t moved the appropriate files.

Here’s a screen shot of the rule:

And here’s a short video clip of what happens when click Run Rules Now: http://screencast.com/t/NzNiOTYzYz

Thanks for your help.

What does the preview show? Also, check the logs by going to "Info" and clicking on "View Log". Post anything relevant here.

This is what preview shows when I run the rule:

As for the log, it tried opening the file in BBEdit, but my copy of that application is not registered, so I couldn’t really read those files. I don’t know to open the log in another application. I just clicked the button in Hazel.

The log should open in Console. It seems that BBEdit is becoming a bit overzealous.

If you go to your Library/Logs/Hazel folder, you should see a Hazel.log file which you can open either in Console or TextEdit or any other text editor. Or you could just attach it to an email and send it to support.

Okay, I opened it up, but it doesn’t list the rule as running or not running on that particular folder. I tried and check the log a couple of times. It also doesn’t show up in the Preview Rules Matches.

If it's not showing up in the preview then the rule logic isn't correct for what you want to do (or the files don't have the attributes you think they do). Make sure to double-check the date created in Finder and see if that meshes with what preview shows.

Okay the problem seems to be that i have two rules for the folder. The first rule reveals Any added file in the Finder, when it’s first added to the folder. The second rule is supposed to move day old files to a second folder. The latter rule will only work when i disable the first rule. Why is that?

Only one rule can match against a file. So, if it matches the first, then the second is never run. You need to order your rules to take this into account.

Given those two rules, just changing their order should work. Also, you could tighten up the rule that reveals files as I assume you only want that to happen when they are first added. A condition like "Date added is after date last matched" would cover that.

Okay, thanks for taking the time to help me here. I’m still trying to wrap my head around it.

Here’s two sets of rules I have. Could you tell me what to change so it might work. Should I only try to do it with one set of rules?

I thought the rule to move files was only supposed to apply to files before today. The whole point for two rules is so you can apply them to different sets of files. If you want a file, upon being first added, to both be revealed and then get moved, then yes, you should combine those into one rule.
