Multi-part rar file failing to unarchive Fri Apr 25, 2014 12:21 am • by alku83
This was previously working fine, so I have a feeling this may have been broken by the unarchive changes in v3.2.7? I'm running OS X 10.9.2.

This is what I am seeing in the logs:

Code: Select all
2014-04-25 14:01:54.845 hazelworker[1386] HAZEL_modern.family.s05e20.720p.hdtv.x264-remarkable.rar: Rule UnRAR matched.
2014-04-25 14:01:54.845 hazelworker[1386] Could not identify archive type for file: /Users/Ben/Downloads/Torrents/Incoming/HAZEL_modern.family.s05e20.720p.hdtv.x264-remarkable.rar
2014-04-25 14:01:54.845 hazelworker[1386] [Error] Unarchive failed: Failed to unpack archive for /Users/Ben/Downloads/Torrents/Incoming/HAZEL_modern.family.s05e20.720p.hdtv.x264-remarkable.rar.

My UnRAR rule is:
* Extension is rar
* Name starts with HAZEL_
* Date Last Modified is not in the last 15 minutes

The action is simply:
* Unarchive

An example of the files list for the multi-part file it is failing on:
HAZEL_modern.family.s05e20.720p.hdtv.x264-remarkable.r00
HAZEL_modern.family.s05e20.720p.hdtv.x264-remarkable.r01
HAZEL_modern.family.s05e20.720p.hdtv.x264-remarkable.r02
...
HAZEL_modern.family.s05e20.720p.hdtv.x264-remarkable.r20
HAZEL_modern.family.s05e20.720p.hdtv.x264-remarkable.rar

Is this something I am doing wrong or a potential bug in the latest version?

Thanks,
Ben

I believe there was a bug introduced in the last version. In an attempt to fix a different issue, it seems that unarchiving in certain cases has been broken. In the meantime, I suggest using a program like "The Unarchiver" to do the unarchiving. Actually, there's a chance just by downloading and installing the program, it might work in Hazel. But if it doesn't then use the "Open" action with it to do the job.

Simply installing The Unarchiver has fixed the issue. Thanks!

I also had issues with this. I installed "The Unarchiver" and it now works as well. It is a free app from the app store.

Note that I will fix this in the future but this should make things work in the meantime.

I am having this same issue.
Mac OS X 10.10.2
Hazel 3.3.3

Hazel is set up to duplicate all the multi-part rar files
Then it will only "unarchive" the .rar file itself.
That is when it fails:
Code: Select all
hazelworker[606] [Error] Unarchive failed: Failed to unpack archive for FILENAME.rar

So, I then manually go in and try to unarchive the .rar manually using The Unarchiver and that too will fail. Here is the strange part though...if I stop Hazel, delete the duplicated archive files and sit there and watch it do the jobs it works.

It seems to only fail when the automation occurs when my computer is not in use.

Any ideas?

Where is the archive coming from? Is it still being written out when Hazel first processes it?

It is happening with multiple archives in similar formats. TV Shows that are being downloaded. They aren't "seen" by Hazel until they are fully downloaded.

But what is doing the downloading?

Last time I used uTorrent, it didn't have an option to designate files that were finished downloading. I would suggest switching to Transmission which has this option and also doesn't try to attach crapware to its installation like uTorrent does now.

Hello. I am having the same issue an have not been able to address it. Can anyone help breakdown this setup?

I have a multiple rar file folder that downloads with utorrent. The file folder contains multiple rars plus two other files (.nfo and .svf). I have tried multiple setups copying the folder, etc but continue to get an error. Any direction would be appreciated.

As stated before, uTorrent is not a good program to use with Hazel for reasons cited above. I would consider using a different program which has a way of separating out finished from in progress downloads.

understood - thank you. i have found started using a separate program since this morning that allows me to separate out finished downloads. however, the completed download is still a folder that contains multiple rar files. i'm not sure how to set up the rule on the separate folder. Thank you for your help.

Search the help on how to go into subfolders. Also, you only need to match the main .rar file, not the other parts. The unarchive action will handle unarchiving the whole thing.
