Tagging Items in Sub-Sub Folders Mon Jul 24, 2017 8:26 am • by Valentin
Hi there!

I just came across this software and really like it as far as I can tell yet. But I didn't manage to achieve what I downloaded it for. I have many Folders that constantly change and I need to tag whats inside of them. An example:

A folder called "Companies", with many company subfolders which each have a folder called "Invoices", like that:

I Companies
I-- Company A
I----- Invoices
I------- invoicexy.pdf
I-- Company B
I----- Invoices
I------- invoiceABC.pdf

I want every file inside of one of these "Invoices" sub-subfolders of Companies have an "Invoice"- Tag. But I don't want to create a new rule for every Company folder since there are hundreds and its just getting more.
I tried out a lot and also tried to find a solution in this board. Found a lot of interesting possibilities, but nothing that really solved my problem. Does anyone have an Idea?

Search for "subfolders" in the help.

Thank you, I've done that. I could figure out how to Tag every folder within a certain folder, but not the data inside. I think there is some fundamental thing that I've got wrong and I can't figure out what it is. Here is my approach:

Check the help article again as it describes this type of situation. You are combining logic to match folders with that for matching files.

I've read it again but I don't understand why my approach is wrong - The condition "Document Container" should be a file based, not a folder based condition, shouldn't it? It checks weather the Container of a file matches a certain pattern. And if it does, the file should be tagged. If not like that, how should I check if a file is inside of some folder names "invoice"? Sorry man, I managed to do some subfolder actions, but not that particular one, Just ones like on all pdf files or on every folder and so on.

"Run rules on folder contents" only works for folders. That is where you are confusing the logic. You need a separate rule to match the folders you want to go into and use that action. Using that action on a rule that matches a file makes no sense and will not work.
