Merge Rules from 2 Computers Thu Apr 13, 2017 9:08 pm • by leilajake
Hi There, l hope someone can please help. I am running Hazel 4.09 on my iMac and my MacBook Pro. ALL rules monitor Dropbox Folders, but 90% of my rules exist and were created on my iMac.
Since l seem to be using my MacBook more now i would like to sync my Folder Rules via Dropbox on both computers so that if l want to create a new rule it doesn't matter which device l am using. HOWEVER i have a number of complex rules (well they are for me..!) on my MacBook and obviously don't want to lose them. How can l get all my rules into one Hazel Box, and is it even possible!.
I also want to confirm that Hazel service won't "Fight" over who saw the file appear in the Dropbox folder first.
Sorry l am new at this but am keen to really start making the most of this great service in an attempt to achieve an "organised" paperless office.
Thanks in anticipation.

It's a bad idea to have more than one Hazel instance watching the same set of files. I'd designate one machine to do otherwise they will fight.

You can use the import/export function (found in the gear/cog pulldown) to backup and transfer your rules around. If you do sync rules, note that which rules are active is local to each instance. So you can have one set of rules enabled for one machine and another set for the next.
