Help with converting file names... Tue Feb 21, 2017 11:17 am • by jaybray
Apologies in advance if this is a duplicate, but I wasn't sure exactly what to search for.

Part of my job involves building email campaigns. A campaign can potentially consist of 8, 10, 12, or even 15 messages. I build the graphical elements in Photoshop. When I export the images I end up with a file list that looks something like this:
1_02.jpg
2_02.jpg
3_02.jpg
4_02.jpg
5_02.jpg

This list is just an example. The numbers may not always be the same, but the pattern is always the same:
numeral, underscore, numeral, numeral

Occasionally the pattern will be:
numeral, numeral, underscore, numeral, numeral

I always have to manually change these filenames so the list looks like this:
1.jpg
2.jpg
3.jpg
4.jpg
5.jpg

I always export files to the same folder so it's in a location Hazel can easily monitor. I'd like if Hazel could rename the files for me as soon as they pop into the folder, but I'm a Hazel noob and I'm having trouble figuring out how to set this up.

Thanks for any advice.

Search for "match patterns" in the help. You can create a custom attribute to match the first number and then use that in a Rename action.
