"Date Last Opened" field not updating in WebLocs?

I've got a folder of URL files on the desktop. I'm coding a Hazel script to keep an eye on these things, eventually tossing them out after a a year if they're not being used. Problems:

1. Opening one of these things doesn't update the "Date Last Opened" field on the OS's Get Info screen (probably an OS thing beyond Hazel's ken), and....

2. Probably more important: Hazel itself is not recognizing ANY date in this field...it shows as blank in the Get Info screen in the "Show Rule Status" screen.

Hmmmmmm.......

#1 is definitely outside of Hazel's control.

As for #2, is the field blank using the preview function? Also, are you using the built-in date last opened or the "Spotlight" version you get when you select "Other..." and choose from the list?
