Deleting part of a file name/ undo Tue Dec 20, 2016 3:57 pm • by danklim
Hi I'm using hazel for the first time and asking what i think is a basic question, couldnt find the answer though.

I used a rule to add the words "iphone camera" to all files added from the iphone camera, but i tried changing the rule a few times (w/ other variations like "from iphone") and now have files with names that repeat multiple times in the file name and make it very long.

How can i either:

A) run a rule to delete specific portions of a file name? ie delete ""from iphone" . Is this possible?

B) undo the effects of that rule running? or do i need to just be careful with stuff like this and not do it in the first place?

Thanks!

It's better to not do it in the first place. You should take precautions such that the file resulting from the rename doesn't match the same rule again. While Hazel does have some loop detection it might not always work depending.

To remove it, look into "match patterns" as a possible way. You can try matching everything except for the part you want to get rid of, and then rename using the part you want to keep.
