Renaming data within a package? Wed Nov 02, 2016 5:19 pm • by bayon
I've been on a mission to setup Hazel to rename daily database backups of software I use so my backup software will only grab changes and not want to backup 125GB everyday. I finally got all settings dialed and I thought I was off to the races, but I have found my next snag.

While Hazel is doing great renaming the backup file, my backup software is still treating it as a new file. The reason being is because if you open the package contents of the backup file, it contains 4 other zipped folders that are uniquely named with the date of the backup. I was able to fix this on the surface with a simple rename, but these package contents threw a wrench in my plans.

So with that said, can Hazel look deeper into package contents and rename data? I know that's getting a little messy, but at least want to continue seeing if it's possible.

Hazel won't go into packages. You'll have to use a script to operate on package contents.
