renaming pdf based on content. plzz help. Sat Aug 27, 2016 2:37 pm • by drhaidar
Hi there. I am a medical doctor dealing with blood test results of my patients. the paper files are scanned and saved as pdf files.
I need to rename the files based on the patients name and test date. then I need to save the renamed pdf file in a folder named by patients name.
so the final file would look like this patients name-date.pdf
how can i tell hazel to extract patients name and test date from the pdf and do automatic renaming.

Search for "match patterns" in the help as well as the support page (https://www.noodlesoft.com/support). There should be articles to help you there.

Hi There-
I had a similar problem and found this thread to be very useful.

One thing you don't mention is if you are using some kind of OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software such as Fine Reader to turn the scanned record into searchable text. This would be the first step, from there Hazel should be able to search the contents of the document, and rename the PDF, and place it in the correct folder.
