Can't Preview Files in Smart Folders Fri Aug 05, 2016 12:37 pm • by theFile
I've created a few smart folders in Finder. I can see the PDFs in the smart folders when I look at them on Finder, so the system does show files in the folders. When I click the eye icon in Hazel for that folder, and try to preview the files, nothing shows up. When I check the log, it says: "Could not switch to directory : </Users/theFile/Library/Saved Searches/theSearch.savedSearch>"

If it matters, I also can't look into the files that are in the Smart Folder when trying to test a rule against a file in that folder (even though the file shows up when I look at the folder in Finder).

Thoughts?

Can you email support (click the "Contact support" button in Hazel's "Info" section) and attach one of the Smart folders in question?

I fiddled around in Hazel, and noticed (like another user on the board, recently) that when I try the same thing with a smart folder that does not look in a database, then it works fine. In Finder, a smart folder will show the files whether they are inside or outside the database. In Hazel, a smart folder (in my case) will only show the files if they are outside of the database. I haven't done robust testing on this, and haven't tested it with any other database files than the DEVONthink database. But, that's what I've found. Like the other user, I ended up creating a stop-gap staging folder to run Hazel rules on the files before sending them to the DEVONthink database, rather than trying to copy out of the database after they're already in there. Maybe Hazel is saving me from myself on this one..
